Portland's best micro wedding venues from a candid film wedding photograph

I've been shooting Portland weddings for the past five years and I've compiled a list of my favorite Oregon wedding venues for more intimate celebrations. This means the venues cater to parties of less than 100 (although I did include a few options that accommodate more than that).

This is for the couples who want a wedding that feels intimate and personal but still has the wow factor of an unforgettable event.

So let’s dive into some of the best spots for a micro wedding near Portland, Oregon.

Guest count: Up to 50

Vibe: Cozy, moody, and intimate with artsy charm

Dame Bar & Restaurant, with its cozy and inviting atmosphere, is a fantastic choice for couples seeking a more laid-back, intimate micro wedding. The venue’s interior, featuring soft lighting, warm wood accents, and eclectic decor, provides an especially perfect backdrop for film photography.

Guest count: Max of 80-100

Vibe: Natural light and vintage touches in the front, romantic secret garden in the back

This is one of my absolute favorite intimate venues in Portland. It strikes the perfect balance between spacious and modern with the high ceilings in the ceremony space with vintage details throughout the entire space. The secret garden-style backyard is the perfect place for an intimate reception that feels private and elevated. And the best part is it's tucked right into an adorable neighborhood in NE Portland. This is the perfect option for couples who want something that feels very local but still special and unique.

The Griffin House – Hood River

Guest count: Up to 75

Vibe: Classy, cinematic, cliffside drama

Perched high above the Columbia River Gorge, The Griffin House has become a bit of an icon and for good reason. It's private, jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and feels way more like a luxury Airbnb than a traditional venue. With views that look fake (but aren’t), it’s perfect for micro weddings that still want to make an impact. Plus, Hood River is full of cute wine bars and breweries to keep the whole weekend relaxed but elevated.

Guest count: 50-150

Vibe: Eclectic and artsy, with tons of areas to explore

I love a McMenamins wedding, and Edgefield is a personal favorite. There are literally countless areas to shoot in - from the gardens to the golf course to the mini bars hidden around the grounds. Edgefield is perfect for couples who want something a little more artsy fun and funky than a traditional venue.

Upper Room in Downtown Portland

Guest count: Up to 40-60

Vibe: Modern, brick walls and industrial finishes

Tucked away in the heart of Portland, the Upper Room is an elegant, minimalist space with a warm, industrial vibe. It’s perfect for couples who want a clean, chic backdrop for their wedding day. The natural light streaming through large windows enhances the timeless quality of film photography, while the high ceilings and open layout allow for creative angles.

For film photographers, Upper Room is an ideal space to capture intimate moments. The soft, ambient light is flattering on skin tones, and the minimalist decor lets the couple and their emotions take center stage. Every frame feels intentional here, perfect for producing those unforgettable candid shots.

Guest count: Up to 40-60

Vibe: Intimate, upscale restaurant with low lighting and great food

For couples looking for a more modern industrial vibe tucked away in Northeast Portland, CH Northeast is a top choice. Its flexible, open layout is perfect for micro weddings, and it allows you to create a personalized atmosphere that feels both intimate and grand. The venue’s exposed kitchen and warm yet modern design make it an ideal setting for a wedding.

Tendue – Portland

Guest count: 30–50

Vibe: Parisian loft meets editorial shoot

Located in inner SE Portland, Tendue is a minimalist dream space with vintage furniture, arched windows, and insane natural light. It feels like a cool art gallery but cozier. It's also a blank slate, which means you can style it up or down. It’s ideal for intimate city weddings or chic elopements followed by a wine-and-cheese style dinner party. Bonus: they offer in-house rentals and styling if you don’t want to DIY everything.

Guest count: Up to 100–150

Vibe: Big sculpture garden right in downtown Portland

Nestled in the heart of Portland’s Slabtown, Blockhouse is a modern and intimate venue that emphasizes natural light and greenery. With its indoor-outdoor flexibility and minimalist design, it’s an oasis in the city for small, intimate gatherings - even if your guest list hits triple digits. The lush greenery surrounding the venue offers the perfect backdrop for capturing candid moments on film.

The Benson Hotel in Downtown Portland

For those seeking a bit of history and luxury for their micro wedding, The Benson Hotel is a standout. This grand, historic hotel in downtown Portland offers opulent details like crystal chandeliers, high ceilings, and classic architecture. It’s a venue where vintage charm meets elegance, and it's absolutely perfect for film photography.

The Benson’s timeless appeal is amplified when captured on film. The venue’s classic interiors create a sense of romance and grandeur, making every frame feel like a scene from an old-world love story. For photographers, it’s the kind of venue where the setting itself becomes a character in the narrative, helping to tell the couple’s story in a way that’s both elegant and nostalgic.

A few more honorable mentions:

Leach Botanical Garden: Nature's Serenity

Escape the bustling city and discover the tranquility of Leach Botanical Garden. Nestled along Johnson Creek, this hidden oasis boasts lush gardens, meandering trails, and enchanting flora. Exchange vows in the picturesque stone amphitheater or host an intimate reception surrounded by the beauty of nature. Leach Botanical Garden offers a serene and idyllic setting for couples seeking a romantic outdoor celebration.

The Victorian Belle: A Romantic Victorian Estate

Transport yourselves to a bygone era at The Victorian Belle, a hidden Victorian estate nestled in the heart of Portland. This enchanting venue features beautifully manicured gardens, charming gazebos, and an opulent ballroom adorned with elegant chandeliers and intricate detailing. The Victorian Belle provides a romantic and intimate setting for couples who desire a fairytale-like wedding experience.

The Wisteria Gardens: A Floral Paradise

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Portland lies the Wisteria Gardens, a secluded oasis bursting with natural beauty. This venue features lush gardens adorned with vibrant blooms, tranquil water features, and charming pathways. Exchange vows in the enchanting gazebo or host an intimate reception under the canopy of wisteria vines. The Wisteria Gardens offer a serene and romantic setting, perfect for couples seeking an intimate and nature-inspired wedding.
